Greetings
Another week goes by. While things change, things stay the same. Some days feel like groundhog day, some days feel different. I have been working from home for years now and have a relatively fixed routine. It doesn’t change much. It didn’t really change through lockdown and it is pretty much the same now. Even when I leave the house, I go to one place, literally. Despite my comfort with home, even I get cabin fever sometimes.

I decided to take up watercolour painting for lockdown, in March last year. That lasted till May. I also signed up for a digital marketing course on Udemy. Still have about 22 hours of video to go through and I haven’t logged on since August. In May, I wrote a blog post excusing myself. So you haven’t learned a new lockdown skill? And now I am thinking of taking up origami after watching the video of origami artist Juho Könkkölä make a samurai from a single sheet of rice paper, without any cutting.

I heard Dax Shepard being interviewed on a podcast and decided to give his podcast a listen. Enjoyed this one with Common. I am fascinated by Common’s evolution over the years perhaps because it mirrors - excluding the great success in music and film - mine to a certain extent. A man trying to find his space in this world.

Clubhouse is the new-ish social media platform that is, supposedly, going to take over the world. It is invite-only and works with audio. To be honest, I am still trying to get my head around it. It feels very much like crowd-based radio and I keep missing the interesting rooms and discussions. They’re also still very US-influenced even though there is a growing contingent of Africans active on the app. It’s going to be interesting to see how it unfolds, especially when it expands beyond invite-only. The Promising Highs and Chaotic Lows of Clubhouse.

Love FKA twigs. Everything that she creates. She just put out the single Don’t Judge Me with Headie One and Fred again. Dope track, dope video.

The music industry was, to a certain extent, ground zero for digital disruption but it has, in its own way, recovered by pivoting into different spaces. And now, it seems, buying beats for viral songs is becoming a popular (and messy) business.

Constantly exploring platforms and ways of aggregating and curating African content. The latest endeavour that I have jumped on is the relaunch of Ogojiii, which operated as physical magazine some years back. We have now relaunched on Medium as a pro-bono, community-driven innovation and design media platform with an African focus. Check it out and, if you have stuff to contribute, please do holler.

Well, it’s Groundhog Day, again.
That’s it for this week. If you enjoyed, please share. If it was shared with you, please subscribe.

Authentic as always. You always give us an insight to being an ordinary person with common issues. Loved the alignment with Common, but don't think you should continue Origami. The African content, we wait patiently for that, sir.
Good stuff, as ever. Glad to see your on CH. Agree that it's very US-centric. It's be interested in listening inn on dinner convos among African creatives and creators, so please LMK if there are rooms you'd recommend. Finally, thanks for the heads up on the FKA Twigs video. 🔥
