Babies, fathers and poems
Greetings,
There’s so much going on and the lockdown plus its impact on work has been taking its toll. But, I still plough on, grateful for the support of those around me. And still, I randomly trawl the digital world for things that interest, entertain and educate me.
1
The biology of dads. Some interesting work being done in understanding the impact of fatherhood on the bodies and brains of fathers. I must confess, with both my children, I had ‘morning sickness’.
2
What makes Baby Yoda so Lovable?
3
I have been reading a lot more poetry lately in the hope that it will inspire to start actively writing poetry again. Love this poem from Nii Ayikwei Parkes, Blowing Smoke.
4
I had previously shared a link to an interview with Skunk Ananse’s Skin where she talked about her biography It Takes Blood and Guts, which I finally got my hands on last week. Wonderfully written, insightful, honest, and a quick read, I devoured it in about four days with Spotify’s Skunk Ananse playlist as the soundtrack. Songs take on new meaning when you get insight into what inspired the song.
5
History can be told in so many different ways. I love how Adinkra Jewelers give insight into the history of Ghana, the Asante people and adinkra symbols on Instagram, beyond simply selling jewellery.
6
Being kind to ourselves is even more critical in a world that seems to be in such turmoil.
7
Being a fan of both Prince’s and Spike Lee’s art, I have always loved the fact that, although seemingly unlikely, there was a Pro-Black bond between the two of them.
That’s it for this week. Thanks for reading. You can see past issues and subscribe here. Please do share if you enjoyed it.
